Following a search for suitable sites that began in 2007, the local congregation of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church purchased Chapel Farm in 2024. We have put forward plans for a new purpose-built Gospel Hall on this site.
The Gospel Hall would replace the one currently used on the outskirts of Houghton Regis, which is no longer large enough to accommodate the Church’s community.
The site at Chapel Farm not only has the space to meet our needs, but also offers a unique opportunity to reserve land for the use of the local community, including setting aside land for a biodiverse woodland as voted for by the Chalton community. The proposals will enhance access into the village and create a safer, improved access point for visitors to the site.
Children at Chalton School will benefit from a larger, sunnier playground, supported by land gifted directly to the school.
A carefully designed buffer zone will help protect the village boundary from further development and commercialisation, while maintaining a low-usage approach that preserves the area’s character. In addition, derelict buildings will be removed to enhance the overall appearance, and the site will form an attractive gateway into Chalton, with the heritage farmhouse retained as a key feature.
Following extensive pre-application discussions with Central Bedfordshire Council, and a public feedback consultation, we are in the final stages of the planning process.
