Following a search for suitable sites that began in 2007, the local congregation of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church purchased Chapel Farm in 2024. Planning permission has now been granted for a new purpose-built Gospel Hall on the site, marking an important milestone for the Church and the local community.

The new Gospel Hall will replace the Church’s current meeting place on the outskirts of Houghton Regis, which is no longer large enough to accommodate its growing congregation.

The Chapel Farm site not only provides the space needed for the new Gospel Hall, but also delivers lasting benefits for the wider community. Land will be reserved for community use, including a biodiverse woodland, reflecting the wishes expressed by the Chalton community. The approved development will also enhance access into the village and provide a safer, improved entrance for visitors.

Children at Chalton School will benefit from a larger, more open playground, made possible through land gifted directly to the school.

A carefully designed buffer zone will help protect the village boundary from further development and commercialisation, while maintaining a low-usage approach that preserves the area’s character. Derelict buildings will be removed to improve the appearance of the site, while the heritage farmhouse will be retained as a key feature, creating an attractive gateway into Chalton.

With planning permission now secured, preparations will begin for the delivery of the approved scheme, and we look forward to creating a facility that will serve both the congregation and the wider community for many years to come.
